Vorige week publiceerde de Europese Commissie vijf scenario’s voor de toekomst van Europa. De Britse schrijver Paul Mason voegt er een zesde aan toe voor een Europa gebaseerd op democratie en sociale rechtvaardigheid. Want

Hij stelt een nieuw Europees Verdrag voor dat aan alle parlementen van de lidstaten ter ratificatie moet worden voorgelegd.
At the heart of the new TEU shall be embodied the principle: equalisation upwards of all social rights and living standards. On signature of the new TEU, all states will be required to pass through their national parliaments legislation to raise their statutory minimum wage to XX EUROS per hour (TBC).
Within five years all signatories shall be required to adopt uniform workplace rights, partnership arrangements with trade unions and common minimum standards of welfare provision — for example: state subsidised childcare from the age of 18 months as in SWEDEN; six months statutory maternity pay at full pay; laws to eradicate bogus self-employment.
