Der Mythus des 21. Jahrhunderts

Het is niet verwonderlijk dat de opkomst van intelligente, mondige en weerbare allochtonen in Nederland een reactie oplevert vanuit de onderbuik – het argumentloze brulblog GeenStijl. Dat die reactie komt in de vorm van een quasi-intellectuele longread, gebaseerd op reeds lang bij het grofvuil gezette, niet erg wetenschappelijke theorieën, is dat ook al niet. GeenStijl koketteert bij gebrek aan argumenten continu met wetenschappers die toevallig precies op hun lijn zitten, zoals de aantoonbare charlatan, tevens PVV-Europarlementariër, Hans Jansen. Of “Prof.” David Pinto. Is het een provocatie? Het is mogelijk dat Marck Burema’s legertje quasi-anonieme brulaapjes hoopt op een uitbarsting van agressieve woede tegen GeenStijl en Powned (twee handen op één buik: zie waar de registratieknop van powned.tv je naartoe stuurt). Het zou perfect in hun kraam te pas komen; ze proberen dan ook al een hele tijd om – vooral door henzelf uitgelokte – non-incidenten op te blazen tot gewelddadige aanvallen op de “vrijheid van meningsuiting,” en ze zijn er niet vies van om de waarheid op zijn kop te zetten zodat de schuld niet bij hun eigen ranzige meelopertjes ligt, maar bij de ander.

Amerikaanse luchtaanvallen in Syrië drijven rebellengroepen in armen IS

Zo meldde The Guardian enkele dagen geleden:

“Isis now is like a magnet that attracts large numbers of Muslims,” said Abu Talha, who defected from the FSA a few months ago and is now in negotiations with other fighters from groups such as the al-Nusra Front to follow suit.

Assam Murad, a fighter from a 600-strong dissident FSA brigade near Homs said: “There’s no way we would fight Isis after the US military campaign against them.”

A third man, Abu Zeid, the commander of an FSA brigade near Idlib and a defector from President Bashar al-Assad’s army, said: “All the locals here wonder why the US coalition never came to rescue them from Assad’s machine guns, but run to fight Isis when it took a few pieces of land. We were in a robust fight against Isis for confiscating our liberated areas, but now, if we are not in an alliance, we are in a truce with them.” […]

Murad, a fighter with the FSA’s 600-strong al-Ribat brigade near Homs, said an offer three months ago by the US-backed Hazem movement to supply his unit with advanced weaponry if it joined the fight against Isis was turned down.

“We rejected this attractive offer, even though we are in great need not only of weapons but food. There is no way that we would fight Isis after the US military campaign against them,” he said.

He and his fellow fighters were awaiting the arrival of Isis militants in Homs, he added. “The moment Isis fighters touch the soil of the Homs countryside, we will be the first to fight with them at the front. This [US-led] military coalition is not against Isis, it is against entire Islam.”

Israël vernielt huis van vermeende terrorist; aanvallen op Palestijnen na aanslag op synagoge

NIEUWS - De situatie in Jeruzalem blijft onverminderd onrustig in de nasleep van de recente aanslag op een synagoge en andere gebeurtenissen.

Woensdag werd een huis opgeblazen van een vermeende terrorist in Silwan, en staakten Palestijnse buschauffeurs voor de derde achtereenvolgende dag. Dinsdag, mogelijk als reactie op de aanslag op een synagoge, werd een 22-jarige Palestijn neergestoken in Jeruzalem, werd een tiener in een dorp bij Ramallah levensgevaarlijk verwond door een kolonist en beschadigden kolonisten in de buurt van Nablus auto’s van Palestijnen.

In Oost-Jeruzalem omsingelden het Israëlische leger en politie woensdag even na middernacht het huis van de familie van Abdel Rahman al-Shaludi, de man die op 22 oktober mensen aanreed die uit de sneltram stapten bij de Sheikh Jarrah-halte in Jeruzalem. Daarbij werden een baby en een jonge vrouw gedood. Hijzelf werd door de politie doodgeschoten.

Omwonenden vertelden dat de troepen de bewoners uit het huis haalden zonder dat zij iets mochten meenemen. Ook enkele bewoners van naburige panden werden uit hun huizen gehaald. Vervolgens werd het huis opgeblazen, waarbij het hele, vijf verdiepingen tellende pand, evenals een aantal buurhuizen en een auto, zwaar werd beschadigd.

Het bevel tot het vernielen van het huis was afkomstig van niemand minder dan premier Netanyahu. Woensdag gaf de Israëlische premier tevens het bevel om de huizen van de daders van de aanslag op de synagoge in Har Nof te vernielen.

Instead of challenging him on what she saw as a string of broken promises, she would ask the Russian president to spell out exactly what he wanted in Ukraine and other former Soviet satellites the Kremlin had started bombarding with propaganda.

On Nov. 15 at 10 p.m., a world away from the escalating violence in eastern Ukraine, the two met on the eighth floor of the Brisbane Hilton. The meeting did not go as hoped.

For nearly four hours, Merkel — joined around midnight by new European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker — tried to get the former KGB agent, a fluent German speaker, to let down his guard and clearly state his intentions.

But all the chancellor got from Putin, officials briefed on the conversation told Reuters, were the same denials and dodges she had been hearing for months.

“He radiated coldness,” one official said of the encounter. “Putin has dug himself in and he can’t get out.”

De aanleiding tot het schrijven van het boekje is het Evangelie van de Vrouw van Jezus, dat opdook in het najaar van 2012 en waarvan al na drie weken vaststond dat het een vervalsing was. Ik heb toen aangegeven dat het vreemd was dat de onderzoekster, toen eenmaal duidelijk was dat deze tekst met geen mogelijkheid antiek kon zijn, beweerde dat het lab uitsluitsel kon geven.

When I joined an intensive weekend course in London in picking up women, all I had to go on was the The Game, the bible of the pickup artist. It had been a publishing sensation a few years previously when it lifted the lid on the international “seduction community”. It was full of terminology: “negs” (comments designed to subtly reduce a woman’s self-esteem so that she seeks your approval); “HB10s” (hot babe or hard body 10/10); “F-closing” (getting a girl into bed). But that weekend opened my eyes to the reality of the scene, which is a lot more downbeat and often a lot more depressing. […]

It became quickly apparent that the class split neatly into two groups: there were a few wannabe Don Juans, who claimed they were already having quite a lot of sex yet felt they should be having more, and a much larger group of shy and very genuine guys who would normally panic if they were within five feet of a woman.

Problemen bij Giro 555

NIEUWS - Giro 555 verdeelt de opbrengsten verkeerd onder de achterliggende hulporganisaties. Volgens De Correspondent is dat één van de drie problemen waarmee de SHO en Giro 555 kampen.
De Correspondent baseert zich op het adviesrapport dat een onafhankelijke commissie in opdracht van het SHO-bestuur opstelde. Het rapport lag bij de SHO in februari op tafel maar werd vandaag pas openbaar gemaakt (pdf), nadat het artikel op De Correspondent verscheen.

‘NRC rectificeert Powned-verzinsel over uitschelden kind bij intocht Sinterklaas’

Zo meldt Joop:

NRC rectificeert vandaag een reportage over de Sinterklaasintocht in Gouda waarin gesteld werd dat een klein kind werd uitgescholden voor ‘racist’. De krant had zich gebaseerd op een bewering van Powned-directeur Dominique Weesie. Die blijkt verzonnen.

Dat wisten we bij Sargasso natuurlijk al lang.

Maar het is goed dat ook andere media zich realiseren dat Weesie een onbetrouwbare fantast is.

De kans op een Sunni Awakening 2.0 is nihil:

In the Islamic State’s rapid consolidation of the Sunni parts of Iraq and Syria, the jihadists have used a double-pronged strategy to gain the obedience of Sunni tribes. While using their abundant cash and arms to entice tribal leaders to join their self-declared caliphate, the jihadists have also eliminated potential foes, hunting down soldiers, police officers, government officials and anyone who once cooperated with the United States as it battled Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Now, as the United States and the Iraqi government urgently seek to enlist the Sunni tribes to fight the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, they are struggling to undo the militants’ success in co-opting or conquering the majority of them.

Officials admit little success in wooing new Sunni allies, beyond their fitful efforts to arm and supply the tribes who were already fighting the Islamic State — and mostly losing. So far, distrust of the Baghdad government’s intentions and its ability to protect the tribes has won out.

“There is an opportunity for the government to work with the tribes, but the facts on the ground are that ISIS has infiltrated these communities and depleted their ability to go against it,” said Ahmed Ali, an Iraq analyst at the Institute for the Study of War. “Time is not on the Iraqi government’s side.”
