Mooie woorden van Amartya Sen uit het boek The Idea of Justice. Dit boek ben ik momenteel met veel genoegen aan het lezen. Een goed volgbaar verhaal over rechtvaardigheid en het streven ernaar in breed perspectief.
Maar de mooie woorden klinken me nu pijnlijk in de oren na het falen van Kopenhagen. Ondanks alle informatie en alle wil tot redelijkheid, blijkt de grotendeels democratische wereld niet in staat de noodzakelijke stappen te zetten. Met als gevolg dat nu het point-of-no-return is gepasseerd. Ongeacht of er in de nabije toekomst nog een echt en bindend akkoord komt, is de tijd die dan verstreken is tot het moment dat het een effect gaat krijgen te lang.
Wat dus rest is schadebeperking.
Maar hoe leg ik het straks mijn dochter uit?
