Muziek maken met de metrokaart

Conductor turns the New York subway system into an interactive string instrument. Using the actual subway schedule, the piece begins in realtime by spawning trains which departed in the last minute, then continues accelerating through a 24 hour loop. The piece follows some rules. Every minute, it checks for new trains launched from their end stations. The train then moves towards the end of the line, with its speed set by the schedule's estimated trip duration. Some decisions were made for musical, aesthetic, and technical reasons, such as fading out routes over time, the gradual time acceleration, and limiting the number of concurrent trains. Robot tegen autisme

Two years ago, a yellow spongiform robot named Keepon became a minor YouTube sensation when one of its creators programmed it to do a squishy, twisty dance in time to the Spoon song ‘I Turn My Camera On.’

Now Keepon’s creators are turning the robot’s attention to a more serious task: to study how children with autism spectrum disorders interact socially and to see if the robot may be able to help in therapy. More info from Popular Science article.

Tot het eind van de Koude Oorlog heeft de BVD de CPN in de gaten gehouden. Maar de dienst deed veel meer dan spioneren. Op basis van nieuw archiefmateriaal van de AIVD laat dit boek zien hoe de geheime dienst in de jaren vijftig en zestig het communisme in Nederland probeerde te ondermijnen. De BVD zette tot tweemaal toe personeel en financiële middelen in voor een concurrerende communistische partij. BVD-agenten hielpen actief mee met geld inzamelen voor de verkiezingscampagne. De regering liet deze operaties oogluikend toe. Het parlement wist van niets.

De aanleiding tot het schrijven van het boekje is het Evangelie van de Vrouw van Jezus, dat opdook in het najaar van 2012 en waarvan al na drie weken vaststond dat het een vervalsing was. Ik heb toen aangegeven dat het vreemd was dat de onderzoekster, toen eenmaal duidelijk was dat deze tekst met geen mogelijkheid antiek kon zijn, beweerde dat het lab uitsluitsel kon geven.

Les Souliers is a sound installation by French artist Arno Fabre. It’s an ensemble of thirty pairs of shoes, piloted by computer and mechanically actived by ’tramplers.’ The shoes strike and scrape the floor according to a numerical score.
