The city of Sao Paulo is home to 20 million Brazilians, making it the 12th largest mega-city on a planet dominated by shortsighted humans. Shockingly, it has only 60 days of water supply remaining. The city “has about two months of guaranteed water supply remaining as it taps into the second of three emergency reserves,” reports Reuters.

What do the people of Las Vegas imagine they will drink when all the cheap, easy water is gone? Will they swallow dust and pretend it’s water?
The sobering truth is that nearly everyone who lives in Las Vegas doesn’t think about this. By definition, anyone who realized the truth about the disappearing water throughout Nevada, Arizona and California would have already sold their property and moved away. Those who still inhabit regions with unsustainable water supplies — such as Sao Paulo — are choosing to make believe the problem doesn’t exist.

Dat is 2x zo hoog als het jaarlijks tekort en 2.5x zo hoog als het bedrag dat ze kwijt zijn aan rente. Als de rest van het artikel op net zo’n creatieve manier is geschreven dan neem ik het niet zo serieus.
Heel gebruikelijk. Doen we ook allemaal met klimaatverandering.

Hoezo? In Californië (en elders) pompen particulieren zelf (veel te veel) water omhoog en veroorzaken zo het probleem.

@4: Ik had ook moeite met de datering op die Upriser site. Maar wat doorklikken gaf me uiteindelijk een bron bij de Guardian van 25 februari 2015.
Misschien is het een continu-crisis van 60 dagen. Maar ik verwacht dat dan weer niet van de Guardian. Afijn roept u maar.

Srsly? Denk je echt dat de vrije markt dit beter zou aanpakken? Een vrije markt die als adagium heeft “nu zoveel mogelijk pakken, anders doen anderen het wel”? Beter nu veel geld verdienen en straks niks dan nu een beetje en straks nog steeds niks.

Het artikel dateert van 31 jan. maar is half februari en begin maart geüpdate.
Paradox heeft vooral informatie verzameld, daar kun je je voordeel mee doen. Maar je mag ook zelf op zoek naar bronnen, als je daar tijd in wilt steken.
