“Fake news” as shorthand will almost surely be returned upon the media tenfold. The fake news narrative, as widely understood and deployed, has already begun to encompass not just falsified, fabricated stories, but a wider swath of traditional media on Facebook and elsewhere. Fox News? Fake news. Mr. Trump’s misleading claims about Ford keeping jobs in America? Fake news. The entirety of hyperpartisan Facebook? Fake news. This wide formulation of “fake news” will be applied back to the traditional news media, which does not yet understand how threatened its ability is to declare things true, even when they are.

Het gaat hier om elitaire types, die hebben niet de geschiedenis van de uitgeverij gemaakt. Als die uitgeverij echt een verzetsuitgeverij is, dan hoor ik juist daar. En daar horen Leon de Winter en Jessica Dürlacher niet bij. Want die staan juist achter de bezetting, die van Israël. Zij staan achter onderdrukking, achter misdaad tegen de menselijkheid. Dat is een belediging van een verzetsgeschiedenis van een uitgeverij.

Tot nu toe is het de gewoonte in de VS, dat als je president wordt, je je zakelijke belangen onderbrengt in een zogenaamde “blind trust”. Zo’n trust, die compleet onafhankelijk is, behartigt je belangen terwijl je president bent, om mogelijke belangenverstrengeling te voorkomen. Met bovenstaande uitspraak zet Rudolph Giuliani, topadviseur voor de aankomende president van de VS, de deur wagenwijd open voor corruptie.

Een nieuwe biografie van koningin Juliana schept een treurig beeld. Een aanvankelijk zelfverzekerde vrouw die aan de man gebracht moest worden en uiteindelijk ten prooi viel aan een man die niet zozeer in haar als wel in de positie geïnteresseerd was. Juliana zelf valt echter ook het nodige te verwijten.

Trump deed eerstgenoemde uitspraak tijdens een ‘serieuze’ toespraak over zijn beleid gedurende de eerste honderd dagen van zijn regeertermijn – mocht hij tot president worden verkozen.
