Tempel der ratten

Karni Mata was a female Hindu sage born in the Charan caste and is worshiped as the incarnation of the goddess Durga by her followers. She lived an ascetic life, and a lot of temples are dedicated to her.

The most famous of her temples is the temple of Deshnoke, which was created following her mysterious disappearance from her home. The temple is famous for its rats, which are treated as sacred and given protection in the temple.

Hyperfoto’s

French artist Jean-François Rauzier creates hyperphotos in which he combines both infinitely big and infinitely small things in one same image. He found his way by juxtaposing, duplicating, twisting images with Photoshop, making it possible for him to reproduce human vision more accurately.

This way, he generated a genuine numerical puzzle, in which the pieces, cut out, ‘drawn again,’ come up along on top of the imagination of the artist. On Rauzier’s site, click on ‘portfolio,’ then choose a category, then a photo. Keep clicking to zoom in.

Waar kinderen slapen

Photographer James Mollison travelled around the world and took pictures of children and their sleeping space. The pictures are now a part of his book called ‘Where Children Sleep.’ The difference between the children’s places to live is shocking. Not every child has a warm and nice home to grow up in.

De tent van Obama

A rare photo, released by the White House, shows Barack Obama fielding calls from a tent in Brazil, to keep up with events in Libya. The tent is a mobile secure area known as a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, designed to allow officials to have top secret discussions on the move. They are one of the safest places in the world to have a conversation.

Designed to withstand eavesdropping, phone tapping and computer hacking, Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities are protected areas where classified conversations can be held. They can be permanent enclosures within a building, or mobile areas set up when a world leader is on the move, to allow them to view sensitive documents or have secret conversations without any outsiders listening or hacking in.

Rustplaats der schepen

Ships and boats are ancient inventions whose rise parallels the spirit of human adventure. From antiquity to modernity great powers have relied on shipping to expand empires, while grand liners transported tourists to far flung places previously only accessible to the imagination.

But the rise of air travel and decline of shipbuilding have left coasts and rivers littered with abandoned ships, boats and shipyards, that may not look pretty but provide a fascinating retrospective subject for photographers and maritime enthusiasts.

Katamari Hack

Katamari Damacy is a video game for the PlayStation 2. The game plays on the idea of the ‘snowball effect.’ Players take control of a tiny, sticky, little ball, and are challenged to grow it to an enormous size. When they begin, their ball can only pick up little items, such as paper clips and thumbtacks. As more and more items collect on the ball’s surface, however, it becomes bigger.

Now you can turn any web-page into a game of Katamari Damacy with the Katamari Hack. Just copy and paste the below script into the location bar on any site. Then hold down the right-click button on your mouse.

javascript:var i,s,ss=[‘http://kathack.com/js/kh.js’,’http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.1/jquery.min.js’];for(i=0;i!=ss.length;i++){s=document.createElement(‘script’);s.src=ss[i];document.body.appendChild(s);}void(0);

Ruimtehaven

There are, to be frank, not many spaceports on the planet as of 2011. Of the thirty or so only six of them have sent people in to space. Four of those are located in the US, another in China and the sixth and oldest is to be found in Kazakhstan.

It is known as the Baikonur Cosmodrome and as well as being the oldest it is also the largest spaceport in the world. It has quite a remarkable history. Still in operation, it has seen huge political change in its time and is set to function as a space port until at least 2050.

Groet de Geminoid

What you see in the picture above is not a human. It’s a robot, a geminoid. A geminoid is an android, designed to look exactly as its master. The first geminoid was created in 2005 by Prof. Hiroshi Ishiguro of ATR and the Tokyo-based firm, Kokoro. This one is called Geminoid-DK and comes from Aalborg University in Denmark.

Geminoid-DK is intended to advance android science and philosophy, in seeking answers to fundamental questions of which the most important are: What is a human? What is presence? What is a relation? What is identity?
