De muur die door Isael wordt gebouwd en die vorige week door het Internationaal Hof van Justitie werd veroordeeld, wordt gebouwd onder het mom van veiligheid. Het is natuurlijk duidelijk dat de inwoners van Israel wel wat veiligheid kunnen gebruiken, maar Noam Chomsky beschrijft op zijn weblog een alternatieve strategie achter de muur. Eentje die als bijeffect wel een tijdelijke toename in de veiligheid heeft, maar waar de ultieme motieven anders liggen dan ze door de regering Sharon naar buiten worden gebracht.

Die eerste zin snijdt al gelijk genoeg hout:
If the goal were security, Israel would have built the fence a few km inside its borders. It could then be a mile high, patrolled on both sides by the IDF, mined with nuclear weapons, utterly impenetrable. Perfect security.
