Kohler stared. “The wall in his bedroom.”Heidi met his stare, exasperated. “You mean his suicide note?” Kohler just looked at her.
The next day Heidi called Adam’s company commander, Capt. Phelps. “You know,” Heidi fired at Phelps, “I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that my son is being charged with defacing government property and you people are more concerned about your wall than my son,” she stammered. Then she threatened, half jokingly, “I will paint that wall and make this stupidity go away.”
A pause, and then Phelps snapped, “We’ll contact supply and have them bring you the matching paint.”
Heidi Kohl werd eerst niet gebeld door het leger nadat haar zoon een zelfmoord- poging had gedaan en komt er dan achter dat hij is aangeklaagd wegens het beschadigen van overheidsbezit: de muur waarop hij zijn zelfmoordbericht heeft geschilderd.
Nadat het eerder het Abu Ghraib-schandaal onthulde, duikt internetmagazine Salon nu een week lang in de kafkaëske hel die teruggekeerde soldaten wacht.

@1: Inderdaad. Er zit weinig ideologie achter. Dit is gewoon crimineel (doodslag enz.), maar komt niet voor uit een ideologie. Definitie-deflatie en gevaarlijk voor toekomstige regelgeving.

Laat Kafka (laatste zin opstel) er buiten; nu eens. Daarvoor is het probleem te ernstig.
@3: was dat sarcastisch bedoeld, of meen je echt, dat het zelfmoordbriefje op de muur van de ‘kazerne’ een ernstig probleem (beschadiging van overheidsgebouwen) is? Of reageer jij ook al bij het verkeerde topic?
