Often people totally miss the books in favor of the movies that spring rom them. With film adaptations of Philip K. Dick stories like Total Recall, which tend to veer so wildly that you might not recognize even if you had read the source material, it’s understandable. But as it turns out, there are a lot more movies that we didn’t realize were based on books.
This grisly 1840 doll-sized butcher shop with miniature animal carcasses and a floor covered in sawdust and blood would be shockingly graphic to our modern sensibilities. After all, here in the 21st century, we like to remain cheerfully oblivious about where our meat products come from.
But in Victorian times, such detailed model butcher shops were not uncommon, says Sarah Louise Wood, a curator at the Museum of Childhood at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The real question is: Why exactly do such things exist?

David Cerny, a Czech artist has re-modelled a traditional London double-decker bus into a mechanical sculpture of an athlete doing push-ups to celebrate the Olympic Games opening in the British capital on Friday. The bus is installed outside the Czech Olympic House in London’s Islington neighbourhood.
Cerny bought the 1957 bus from an owner in the Netherlands, attached two huge arms, an electrical engine and a lot of wiring and suspension tools to make it into a piece of art named ‘London Boosted.’

Ferropolis, ’the city of iron’ is a museum – opened in 1995 – of old huge industrial machines in Gräfenhainichen, a city near Dessau, Germany. It’s an open air museum which contains machines from the mid-twentieth century.
They can measure to 30 meters high, 120 meters long and weigh up to 1980 tons. As skeletons of huge extinct dinosaurs, these derelict machines seem finally resting in a graveyard of obsolete technology.
A transit of Venus across the Sun takes place when the planet Venus passes directly between the Sun and Earth. The last transit of Venus was this morning but I didn’t see it because it was rather cloudy here in the Netherlands.
The Venus transit as seen in the 171 wavelength. This channel is especially good at showing coronal loops – the arcs extending off of the Sun where plasma moves along magnetic field lines. The brightest spots seen here are locations where the magnetic field near the surface is exceptionally strong.
