Grote Amerikaanse advocatenkantoren boden ooit een glanzend carrièreperspectief, maar dankzij een combinatie van een slopende economische recessie, toenemende automatisering en een overaanbod aan afgestudeerden met een (duur!) rechtendiploma, komt inmiddels ook hieraan een einde. Grote aantallen afgestudeerde advocaten komen tegenwoordig niet verder dan een onzekere, slecht betalende McJob:
