Finally a worldwide competition in which all countries can participate: The battle of the flags. Grades (from A+ to D-, and F) have been handed out based on a somewhat obscure methodology. Since the rules state that “These days no-one should be using a tricolour if they can avoid it. It’s not that tricolours are bad per se; people should just know better than to start using one after say, 1900”, we dutchmen are lucky that the flag of the Netherlands originated in the 16th century and we were thus able to recieve a reasonable B (70/100).

Leuk, echter wel wat conformistisch, zo kan je het al schudden als je driehoekige vlag hebt of een paar leuke priegelfiguurtjes…
De methode is inderdaad wat gebrekkig, maar het idee is prima en alle begin is moeilijk. Vgl. de eerste Idols toen het alleen nog maar ging over iemand een ‘popidool’ was of niet volgens de jury. En nu is dat beoordelingsproces geevolueerd in de richting van concrete en relevante criteria zoals ‘de X-factor’.
Alice had wel een X-factor, wat mij betreft.
