Er zit weinig muziek in politici. En in de kritiek op de politici zit nog minder muziek. Om duidelijk te maken hoe jammer dat is, wat fraai voorbeelden van satirische muziek, waarvan helaas een groot deel uit het verleden komt (en helaas ook de meesten uit de V.S.).
In Fables of Faubus van Charles Mingus werd gouverneur Orval E. Faubus op de hak genomen, nadat hij de Nationale Garde inzette om te voorkomen dat een paar Afro-Anmerikaase tieners een High School in Arkansas zouden betreden.
Stukje uit de tekst:

De periode dat Richard Nixon president was, mag één van de slechtste worden genoemd in de geschiedenis van de V.S. Niet alleen omdat de “hardwerkende Amerikaan” de dupe was.
Randy Newman beet de president toe:
Maybe you’re cheatin’ / Maybe you’re lyin’ / Maybe you have lost your mind / Maybe you’re only thinking ‘bout yourself
Toen het Watergate schandaal losbarstte volhardde Nixon in liegen en bedriegen. Op een persconferentie probeerde hij iedereen nog te overtuigen dat hij geen boef was (I am not a crook). Dat verwerkte Frank Zappa in ‘Song of a Orange County’.
And in your dreams you can see yourself / As a prophet saving the world / The words from your lips (‘I am not a crook’) / I just can’t believe you are such a fool.
Satire wordt soms slecht begrepen. Vooral door mensen die geen enkel gevoel voor satire hebben. Daar kwam de Public Integrity Alliance achter, nadat ze met “Make America Great Again” de spot dreven met Donald Trump. Fans van Trump vinden het geweldig.
De Libanese band Al-Rahel Al-Kabir (The Great Departed) dreef in 2014 de spot met Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi , de hoogste baas van IS (Islamitsiche Staat). In het lied wordt het IS-geweld belachelijk gemaakt.
And because Islam is merciful, we shall butcher and hand out meat. And because we need to reduce traffic, we will blow up human beings.
Veel muzikale spot wordt bedreven door een bekend lied te nemen en de tekst aan te passen. Eind vorig jaar werd de hastag #GOPSongs populair en gingen Twitteraars loos op de Republikeinen door ze met gewijzigde songtitels te bespotten.
Een heel bijzonder stukje muzikale satire vond plaats bij de dood van Margareth Thatcher. Via sociale media riepen anti-Thatcherianen het publiek op om massaal “Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead” te kopen, zodat het nummer hoog op de hitparade zou komen. Terwijl Thatcher nog niet begraven was, haalde het nummer de tweede plaats en natuurlijk een week lang discussie.
Donald Trump is al gekoppeld aan een bekend liedje, dat we hierbij van toepassing verklaren op al te narcistische politici, bijvoorbeeld de MP die het qua normen en waarden beter meent te weten dan Balkenende, “want volgens de VVD-leider is het onder Balkenende “nooit verder gekomen dan een website”.
