Mooi interview, met duidelijke uitleg, het feit dat de acties die Black beschrijft niet worden genomen geeft wel aan hoe diep de politiek in de zakken van de grote finance bedrijven zit. Ik vraag me soms echt af wat ervoor nodig is om dit om te draaien? Blijkbaar is common sense niet genoeg, ook staan de straten niet vol mensen om de bankiers te lynchen of ter verantwoording te roepen. Moet het eerst echt helemaal kaboem doen voordat het volk in actie komt?

Tja, maar dan toch al anderhalf jaar de verantwoordelijkheid van ene B. Obama. Op gegeven moment houdt het kunnen klagen over de zooi van de voorganger namelijk op. Dan is er genoeg tijd geweest om er iets aan te hebben gedaan, namelijk.

WILLIAM K. BLACK Well, so far, they haven’t been able to do it. They can’t even get themselves to use the word fraud.
There’s a huge part that is economic ideology. And neoclassical economists don’t believe that fraud can exist. I mean, they just flat out — the leading textbook in corporate law from law and economics perspective by Easterbrook and Fischel, says — I’ll get pretty close to exact quotation. “A rule against fraud is neither necessary nor particularly important.” Right?
Notice how extreme that statement is. We don’t need laws. We don’t need an FBI. We don’t need a justice department. We don’t even need rules like the SEC. The markets cleanse themselves automatically and prevent all frauds. This is a spectacularly naïve thing. There is enormous ideological content.

Het is een kwestie van pick your battles. Eerst healthcare, dat had duidelijk prioriteit. Het komt Obama niet slecht uit om in een verkiezingsjaar Wall Street aan te pakken en daarover met de Republikeinen te vechten. Zowel links, independent en Tea Party hebben hun buik vol van Wall Street. Ook niet-rijke achterban van Republikeinen – die zich in de culture wars van de Dems keerden – willen Wall Street beteugeld zien. Reps zitten dus in de problemen.
De hoorzitting van gisteren was een publieke ‘flogging’ die veel mensen deed sidderen van genot. Men wil bloed zien.

Loslaten regulering in relatie tot stijging verhouding schuld/bezit…iemand, (en dat kan alleen maar Steeph geweest zijn), heeft daar wel eens een grafiekje over neergekwakt dacht ik. Ja, v.a begin jaren 80 geleidelijk ingezet en ja ook onder Clinton…maar dankzij Bush in 2002 kon de multiplier door Mac & Mae worden ingezet om hun mathematisch duister verknipte triple AAA- hypoteekjes te botvieren…
