Zo meldt Reuters:
The United Nations demanded that the Vatican “immediately remove” all clergy who are known or suspected child abusers and turn them over to civil authorities, in an unprecedented and scathing report on Wednesday.
De kritiek van de VN is dan ook niet mals:
“The Committee is gravely concerned that the Holy See has not acknowledged the extent of the crimes committed, has not taken the necessary measures to address cases of child sexual abuse and to protect children, and has adopted policies and practices which have led to the continuation of the abuse by and the impunity of the perpetrators,” the report said.
Geestelijken moesten het bijvoorbeeld niet in het hoofd halen misbruik ook daadwerkelijk aan te geven:
“Due to a code of silence imposed on all members of the clergy under penalty of excommunication, cases of child sexual abuse have hardly ever been reported to the law enforcement authorities in the countries where such crimes occurred,” it said.
Dat begint toch aardig in de buurt van criminele samenzwering te komen…
Maar wacht, er is meer:
Sections of the report also faulted the Vatican for its opposition to homosexual activity, contraception and abortion.
In its statement, the Vatican said this amounted to interference in Catholic moral teachings.
A Vatican official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said these statements were outside the committee’s remit and “heavily agenda-driven and smacking of acute political correctness”.
Want ‘katholieke morele leerstellingen’ moeten immuun zijn voor kritiek? Ook als ze overduidelijk kwalijke gevolgen hebben?

Ach ja, en je kunt nog wel even doorgaan met citeren uit het artikel want de Vaticaanse VN vertegenwoordiger Tomasi claimt gewoon religieuze vrijheid :
“This committee has not rendered a good service to the United Nations,” Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, head of the Vatican delegation to U.N. organizations in Geneva, told Vatican Radio, accusing the committee of interfering in religious freedom by trying to dictate the church’s moral teachings.
Om vervolgens eigenlijk gewoon te claimen dat er een ideologische lijn is (noem het complot) tegen het Vaticaan en dat het homohuwelijk daar een uiting van is.
Tomasi said non-governmental organizations favoring gay marriage – which the Church opposes – probably influenced the committee to reinforce what he called “an ideological line”.
Het is allemaal niet mis.
En iedereen die voor paus Franciscus is mag nu bang af gaan wachten wat hij gaat roepen. Mijn gok is dat hij niet zo maar 2000 jaar zorg en toewijding in de vorming van het instituut voor de zwijnen gaat gooien.
Er zal niet echt veel veranderen.
Alles gaat erg langzaam in Rome.
