U kunt met een gerust hart gaan slapen: de coupplegers in Mauritanië zijn pro-frans. Mauritania’s military council is formed of a group of pro-France, liberal and tribal leaders. (IslamOnline). Er zal voorlopig nog geen islamitische revolutie plaatsvinden in dit Noord-Afrikaanse land met haar voor Europa belangrijke olie- en ijzervoorraden. De doorgaans goed geïnformeerde HeadHeeb analyseert de situatie als volgt:

Ook al zullen de kolonels een pro-Westerse koers varen toch blijft de situatie onvoorspelbaar. Want als ook dit regime de islamisten geen ruimte in de politieke arena gunt zal de frustratie onder deze groep blijven groeien en zal de volgende coup wél van de islamisten komen.
