The answer to your question is already given :No.
Your reaction given, is so typical for “Neverland “. The wait and see what happens, theory.! Research is already taking place and goes on and on by consistent, persistant, dedicated “believers”. Corrections will automatically take place, pending and during the process, hence will even lead to new developments.
Research is here and now showing the world the current options, the good and bad ones. The ultimate choices will be made at later date.
No time to lose start working.!

Robin, there’s one small, but vital flaw in your logic.

nobody knows what kind of effect the production of biofuels is having on food prices, global warming, and rising fuel costs. Does that mean we should stop moving forward?

The question you skipped is whether biofuels are indeed a step forward. We don’t know yet. So we should stop the talk about producing biofuels or encouraging production for now, and focus on researching them.

Then, when clouds have dissapeared, and research turns out favourable for biofuels, we might start thinking about large-scale production.

Ever talked to a farmer ?
Your everyday food : monocultures, pesticides, fertilizers, massive agri-machinery. Must have slipped your mind, I assume ?
What about your tulips and flowercrops. ?Serving only the purpose of a short pleasure !

What about your energy absorbing greenhouses? These crops “artificially” nourished with fertilizers, generating tasteless foodproducts.

Forests, agree ! As oxygen suppliers, wildlife reservations… but food, I doubt it.

Biofuels, though, interesting , i.e. in “agricultural terms ” of crop-rotation, hence providing additional feedstock and additional energy e.g fuel ,gas.
Every year: 90 million new babies need food and energy. New energies -renewables/ biofuels providing a chance to cope.

Why choosing for an empty $-hell, instead half an egg ?
Biofuels , like any other form of emerging new-and cleaner energy, is a first step to a new energy world order. Neverlanders obviously continue to comfort themselves with the thought their government ($-hell)would be able to solve the energy/environment problem.
No way !! as no-interest, no-expertise,
no- vision , no- strategy for Neverland!!!
By the way : Watch the NASA/KNMI satelite images showing “Neverland” being the most polluted country on the Western hemisphere.

Cause, if we don’t know wat the industry in the future might develop, then probably it can turn out to be the best solution.

• The World Bank says that the production of biofuels has driven global food prices up
75%.
Well that certainly settles it,

Why should the World Bank be anymore ‘biased’ than USDA or vise versa?

Democratie is van oorsprong een grieks woord dat het politiek bestel van het toenmalige griekenland verwoordde. Hierbij werden door het LOT een aantal mensen aangeduid in de gemeenschap die als taak kregen de gemeenschap te vertegenwoordigen en te bepalen welke samenlevingsproblemen dienen geregeld te worden en hoe. Wij kunnen ons voorstellen dat zij zeer richtinggevend kunnen geweest zijn, en voor de techniciteit van de beslissing beroep doen op ter zake bevoegde mensen.

In casu, energievoorziening, daar gaat het hier toch over zal de volkvertegenwoordiging allicht belang hechten aan de voorzieningsgraad (zelf- ?), aan de kostprijs, aan individuele vrijheid ofte onafhankelijkheid, aan milieuvriendelijkheid, aan produktie- en gebruikscomfort.

Binnen het bovenstaande aan te vullen kader zullen bevoegde personen kunnen omschrijven hoe dit kan gerealiseerd worden, en kan de goegemeente aan de slag.

In de praktijk zien we nu echter verkozenen die afgevaardigd zijn door belangengroepen die op hun beurt bevoegde personen betalen om hun waarheid te bewijzen of te verdedigen; dit heeft met democratie niet veel uitstaans meer.
De voorziening van veel te veel basisbehoeften is in handen gekomen van groepen die helemaal geen rekening wensen te houden met bovenstaande omkadering.
